An interesting evolution study

January 24th, 2006

http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/newsrel/science/mcirreversible.asp

paraphrase: “loss of a complex trait is often irreversible”
“genetic coding data indicates complex trait studied did not arise multiple times, contrary to conclusion which would be reached based on statistical analysis of living species with said trait” (that sounds a lot like complex traits must be inherited from ancestors to me… :-) )

quote: “The study contradicts earlier studies of complex trait evolution, which have tended to favor multiple reappearances of complex traits after these organs were lost in ancestral species.”

Relevant Magazine

August 23rd, 2005

I hope everyone is having a good summer! Relevant Magazine has re-done their website, and now it seems more sluggish and cluttered (IMHO I think they used flash a bit too much, and didn’t take the advice of Edward Tufte). However, whatever the aesthetics, they still have some thought-provoking articles. I received 850 Words of Relevant today, and here is a link to it. The article “Why I Went Back to Church” made me think about the author’s perception of the church, and how it is different to my own perception. Anyway, I hope someone finds it useful :)

BONFIRE

PRAYER/WORSHIP NIGHT!!!

May 31st, 2005

Praise the Lord, from Vanessa and Joe Liski.

Tomorrow night as many of you might know is prayer and worship starting at 7pm til perhaps 8:30ish, depending if you all arrive at 7pm :) We will really let that night be an open atmosphere for y’all, so that we can worship and pray in a free environment and of course as one body in Christ as BSERC. I am so EXCITED!!!

I know there might be people who might not come because they have papers due or finals to study, but this will be only for an hour and half tops. Plus, for me Joe Liski, I have a 10 page paper due on Thursday, which I still have not started on yet. As you can see, I am not screwed :) God Is GOOD!

So remember same time, same place. Be there or be square or just be aware… I don’t know… I was trying to freestyle, but that did not work :)

See you guys and ladies there…
